In life you will learn that a lot of things don’t go your way. In fact, the things that do happen are usually the ones you dreaded the most. I have a simple anecdote for you that will help you pass by life as if you swam through the oceans without having to fight any boulders.
My sweet child, learn to forget. I know that by the time you read this you’ll already be familiar with the old proverb, ‘Forgive and forget’. But I want you to know that where forgiveness is a divine trait, forgetting is one thing humans can do which I believe that no other entity on this planet can. A tree doesn’t wake up one fine morning and says, “Oh, I think I’ll forget yesterday, because it was some hailstorm which I didn’t like to endure.” No, trees can’t do that. But you can.
Remember that at times in life, a person needs to forget what they went through in life, whatever it might be. Once the sun sets promising a new morning, a new beginning, you can choose to forget all the nastiness that has been bothering you. Just like that, snap! And all the pain, the weirdness, the awkward feeling our bodies are possessed with when things don’t seem to be going right; is gone, like it never existed.
Forgetting not just unhappy incidences or horrible experiences, but sometimes it feels nice to forget things that you took for granted all along, and see them with a new perspective. Watching your mother pour milk for you in a glass, or going to the cinema to watch a random movie; forget that you have done this countless times. Once you forget the basics, you will note that when you see things as if you did for the first time, the goodness of everything flows through you, especially the little things.
If at the time when you reading this, you have also learnt to forgive before you forget, then I’d say a jolly good “Congrats!” But if you haven’t, you should know that the first step is forgetting, then comes forgiveness, and after that comes forgetting again, but this time it is complete freedom from whatever that caused you hurt.
